Unisoc has reportedly broken into the 5G mobile processor market with the T820, a new 6 nanometer chipset with a 1+3+4 core configuration. The chip-maker has partnered with Nubia to debut its new SoC in the Neo, a gaming smartphone with a “futuristic aesthetic design” and at least two cameras. It will go to pre-order later in June 2023.

Unisoc is a lesser-spotted chip designer typically best known for budget-class 4G chipsets. However, it has reportedly graduated to 5G support with its latest T820 processor. It is reportedly made up of 1 ARM Cortex-A76 core responsible for its 2.7GHz max speed, along with 3 additional A76s clocked at 2.3GHz and 4 more Cortex-A55 cores with a frequency of 2.1GHz.

The T820 is also said to have the Mali-G57 MC4 for a GPU. Therefore, while it may represent a connectivity update for its OEM, even Unisoc might be prepared to concede that its contents are hardly new to anyone. That may be why the well-regarded leaker WHYLAB projects it will feature in new smartphones sold at the ~US$200 mark, starting with the Nubia Neo.

At that possible price-range, it is definitely not RedMagic-level in terms of specs or performance. Nevertheless, Nubia has applied the expertise of its top-end gaming smartphone brand to the Neo’s design, leaving it with a rear panel that at least looks like it might have active cooling set into gray or yellow rear panels.

The Nubia Neo’s pre-orders are slated to go live by June 20, 2023 – furthermore, WHYLAB indicates that this ‘budget RedMagic‘ phone will be available on the international market soon.
